Frequently Asked Questions!

What is a Texturizer?
Texturizers are mild versions of a chemical hair relaxer. The texturizer loosens the natural curl pattern of your hair without completely straightening it. Loosening the natural curl allows for more curly or wavy hair and in many cases, more manageability.
Who is a good candidate for an S-Curl Texturizer?
S-Curls are ideal for someone who wants to retain or enhance natural curls but with a softer, looser curl pattern. The process is recommended for use on short to medium length hair which already has a tight curl, it is not recommended on straight hair because it cannot produce a curl where there is no natural curl pattern present.
How does a texturizer work?
S-Curl uses the chemical sodium hydroxide to loosen the curl. Hair contains proteins referred to as keratin amino acids. One of the major amino acids in keratin is cysteine. Cysteine contains a disulfide bond, which causes the hair to kink and this is what makes the hair curly. The chemical in S-Curl breaks the hydrogen and disulfide bonds, altering the physical structure of each strand and loosening the curl.
How often should I use S-Curl Texturizer?
Remember that only the hair that is texturized will look loosened. New hair will still grow in its natural form. The great thing is that men are cutting their hair weekly & bi-weekly therefore in a 6-8 week time you should have enough new growth to repeat (touch up) the process . If you wear your hair in a longer style that you don`t cut frequently, be careful only to apply S-Curl Texturizer to your new growth, or visit a barber when touching up your roots.
